The Education Revolution

How long do you think Rudd can talk of a revolution in education? I mean there is nothing new except more of the same ! What passion is there to drive it?
Sir H They are getting more water tanks
Bern: Yeh, water on the brain perhaps ? If there is a urgent need for change - where is it, and on what basis?
SirH Do you think the teachers are not supportive of Mr Rudd ?
Bern: Well I think they are not sure what it means? they are concerned that many people ( even athiests) are increasingly sending their kids to church schools.

SirH: well, why are parents increasingly sending their kids to church schools ?
Bern: Hard to say clearly, Its not just faith questions. Church people are setting up these schools because they believe faith is important part of education that they as communities can teach about all sorts of subjects as well as anybody.

The State system is quietly promoting a view that education is a purely secular thing - "There is no place for religion in schools". Many teachers in state schools are supportive of that view , even where chaplains are supported or RE is taught.
Sir H well perhaps the teachers who believe that education is a purely secular thing, should set up their own schools?
That's the way to preserve both passion and diversity ?
Bern Would anyone go ?
SirH : Well if the teachers can't really support diversity in state schools, the state system will fail
Bern I see what you mean ---it is failing mate .

Heavenly minded hot air blues ?

BALI december 2007. I wonder how many Australians who flew into Bali this week will have revelations while they are there. I expect many will. When they admit to the relevation, and its nature , will be the telling point .
Will the expected catharsis be around / NOT be around the consensus they all went there seeking ?
My money on the latter. A catharsis about being a room with people you don't really have much in common with, even though it was thought you would? A cartharsis about what being there yourself says about YOU????
Nothing like throwing all those who agree wholeheartedly together sometimes . Especially if you want to remind them they are the ideas men and they left the practical ones behind. Maybe the bali vision will give a new twist to the old adage about those who are so heavenly minded they are of "no earthly use" ?
Not all of them, you might say------ " there are a few scientists there!"
As scientist, I couldn't think of anything worse that running into the same old stilted conversations of political correctness .Imagine the overworked British bookkeepers whose fame is about to fade , the fearmongers, and overly stern followers , whose constant adrenalin pumping quickly overtakes theirs and other wits: let alone the endless droning over such huge and complex issues that none of them really understand .

I thought Rudd had more sense than to go out on a limb with the likes of em--- and then risking being percieved as coming back with his tail between his legs because he told them a few home truths .I hope he sticks to the story of no carbon trading tick boxes and tick the number talk . . Maybe he is tougher and bigger than we think - able to talk kyoto and talk beyond it - good on him, because as scientists we agree that nothing is agreed.

Never really sure what to believe

Unless we have polls running every day on all sorts of subjects ,many of our leaders don't know what to think .

Takes one to know one

Bernard , If you want to know what might really be going on in his head , imagine, when he's mad about somebody , that he's talking about himself .

Is it really true?

If it is and you can't say so without risking your life, tell him the data is unclear. ( that can very true!)
His and the courts (incl media) share a holy sacred view of the clouds in which science talkers ( that doesn't mean they are scientists at all!) reside. The whole world may know that its true but you can get the whole church( incl- abcchurch) to sit quiet and forget about the possibility of knowledge without research long enough for their interest in "the truth " to go off the boil.

Externalities - the proof is in the pudding

Some Roadside manure down here is down to $2 a bag in our district. That makes it about as cheap as the returns from milk (20 cents a kilo )The milk producers here clearly make more money out of bullsh .
No wonder the signs out
- it doesn't cost anything to produce ,-
-the supplier doesn't want it
-and the demand seems to exceed the supply especially in the city .People value the right things or so the economic rationalist priests tell us.
